Settling In!!!

Well we're in our temporary new music room and it's working out really well. I'm missing my 2's and 3's but the time will quickly pass and then I will have them back with me.

Grades 4-6 have now begun their units on two musical art forms: opera and ballet. 4A, 4B and 5Y are learning about the ballet "The Nutcracker" composed by Tchaikovsky. The opera "Hansel and Gretel " by Humperdinck is being studied by5A, 5B, 5C and 6Y and another opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" composed by Menotti is for 6A, 6B, 6C, 6D. Beautiful music and wonderful stories.

Funny note: we had to have a discussion that this was "opera" we were talking about-- not " Oprah" :)

It has been wonderful to see my kindergarten and grade one classes come to me as single classes instead of double classes. We are having so much fun!!!!!

What a Surprise

Well Grade 6's, what a surprise I got this morning when listening to CBC. I heard the 'Fung Yang Song" as background music. Did any of you hear it?

Elementary Choir

The Elm Street Elementary Choir recorded a song for the Children's Wish Foundation's Holiday Wishes Christmas cd and order forms were passed out to the choir members during several choir rehearsals. A few orders were passed in to me. If choir members still wish to order a cd then they can give their order forms along with the money or cheque to their homeroom teachers on the first day of class and these teachers will pass them on to me.
Smile : )  and always remember: I don't sing because I'm happy-I'm happy because I sing!!!!

Music While At Home

While you're at home listen to a piece of music and think about why you like it. How does it appeal to you?  Do you like the beat, the rhythm, and the melody?What instruments are used? What voices are singing-changed or unchanged? Use some critical thinking while you are listening and enjoying:)
